Dear Mr. Okafor: A short film by ICARH
"Dear Mr. Okafor" tells the story of a lesbian who is abused and forced to conform to traditional norms, regardless of her beliefs and sexual orientation.
The short film aims to tell the stories of LGBTQI+ persons who have experienced sexual abuse intended to “correct” their perceived or actual sexual orientation. It seeks to offer a humane and empathetic perspective on the realities of living as an LGBTQI+ person in a deeply homophobic society, while drawing attention to the mental health impacts of so-called corrective rape.
The film also highlights the limited legal redress available to survivors and serves as an advocacy tool to promote the rights, recognition, and protection of LGBTQI+ people in Nigeria.
