Yonnou Akoounka: A documentary by Alliance des Femmes Battantes
A documentary film has been made about the daily lives of LBTQ girls and women with children who, in order to be accepted by society and preserve their families’ honor, are forced to have children with men without their consent, and are subsequently abandoned without any material, financial, or psychological support. Coming from families that are often responsible for their situation, they raise their children alone.
This documentary project served as a strategy to gain a better understanding of the actual circumstances faced by single LBTQ mothers with children, while bringing this group to the forefront within the community. It also paved the way for their inclusion in tailored projects and programs. This initiative has helped identify their real and fundamental needs and propose concrete solutions, such as training grants, literacy programs, and training in the arts and crafts, to promote their empowerment.
